George W. Bush on Nation-Building
“Somalia started off as a humanitarian
mission then changed into a nation-building
mission and that’s where the mission went
wrong. The mission was changed. And as a
result, our nation paid a price, and so I don’t
think our troops ought to be used for what’s
called nation building. I think our troops
ought to be used to fight and win war. I
think our troops ought to be used to help
overthrow a dictator when it’s in our best
interests.”
- George W. Bush

University, Oct. 11, 2000.Why are our troops nation-building in Iraq when George W. Bush said it is wrong?Saddam posed no threat to us. He was being monitored and kept under control. It was only when we took over, disbanded the military and the government that lawlessness took over and terrorists were able to set up camp. There were no terrorists there before we invaded. Saddam was a ruthless dictator and kept them all under his thumb. Was he evil? sure he was. Just like 100's of other leaders.
Did he pose a threat to us? NO way. We were safer WITH him in power. He was a counterbalance to Iran, he kept terrorists out, he lead a largely secular government.
going into IRaq is the biggest mistake we have madeWhy are our troops nation-building in Iraq when George W. Bush said it is wrong?Bushie hypocrisy. Why are our troops nation-building in Iraq when George W. Bush said it is wrong?Bush just says things - I doubt he understands half of what he says never mind the implications. No national interests of ours were at stake there. The outcome in Iraq affects our security. Read the last sentence of the quote. You shouldn't believe everything I tell you.... hahaha!9/11 changed everything but some people seem to have forgotten what happened then and what can happen again if we don't prevent it by fighting the terrorists there instead of here. Why do liberal refuse to see it?Iraq is the front line in the war on terror and all real Americans prefer Iraq to be the front line over New York or WashingtonThe troops are still fighting %26quot;in our best interest%26quot; and there is nation building occurring before the war is won. I think it is incredible! I am proud of our efforts. No one else in this world can or will.George is such a flip-flopper.
Yo, Supercons, the above passage isn't 'bashing Bush' but quoting FACT.Frankly, I don't think Bush gives a hoot about Iraq. What he did care about was a dictator who had sole control over a vast wealth of natural resources..i.e.OIL. America's thirst for this energy resource is dire in keeping our country wealthy and in essence in control of the world. Security is power. Iraq's political feat of becoming democratic is an excuse for the Bush empire to keep us in Iraq and thus have access to that oil wealth. Democracy has been force fed to this country just like a dictatorship was...Our troops are soldiers. They train hard, they carry M-16's and they know hundreds of ways to clear a city of suspected terrorists. WHY would we waste their training and experience handing out powdered milk for war ravaged cities? If we want to build nation send in Army Corp of Engineers to build buildings, bridges and get waters, we don't need an infantry unit to build bridges.
