I could not change the world poem?

There's a poem (maybe a quote?) that goes along the lines of... I tried to change the world, but couldn't... so i tried to change my nation but couldn't.... so i tried to change my community but couldn't... so i tried to change my friends, my family etc... but couldn't... I could only change myself. wish i had known that sooner.



I'm seriously paraphrasing here... does anyone know this poem? Who it's by? Is it even a poem? Any help would be appreciated.I could not change the world poem?Here is the link to that poem:

It was engraved on the tombstone of an Anglican bishop burried in the Westminster Abbey in 1100 AD. Hope this helps!
