Was Persia a muslim nation before it was changed in 1979 to Iran?

What was the main religion of Iran before the 1970's? Anyone know any history on it?Was Persia a muslim nation before it was changed in 1979 to Iran?Persia (modern Iran) was conquered by the Muslim empire in 652, just 20 years after the death of Muhammad. Iran has been a Muslim country since then although it has had some secular governments. The largest minority religion in Iran is the Baha'i Faith.

Iranians apparently were muslims before revolution and after revolution but if want true we are not real muslim we only claim.
Yes. The second Persian empire was one of the first casualties of the rise of Islam. Note that there are a great many secular muslims in Iran, as one of the people who responded here hinted at, but they typically do not like to make that well known until they leave Iran.
