We are a Republic. We are specifically a nation of laws that superseeds any persons words.
You wonder if Congress will continue to ignore the law and NOT enforce the laws of Immigration, and certainly the intent of the Immigration Law. You wonder if Congress will continue to ignore the intent of the 14th Amendment and continue with the Anchor Babies. Bush stood in front of the cameras and told us he would not arrest illegal aliens coming north to take jobs, and it was a staggering thing to say. But in a sense, and at huge cost to the American People, I think he made it work for a while.
But as the illusion of the mighty words of the founders are stripped away, we find a Bush in all the seasons and years of our country. So very much perfidy has come and gone on this issue. I also wonder if it will break us. But if it doesn't, the way was allowed for a while, and the next time on that way could be sucessful. I believe Chertoff saved us. And I think that it probably is worse than ever right now due to the state our nation is already in. And most laws are probably established with emotional backing anyhow.
