Why does the local news feature random stories from across the nation that really aren't news?

In Albequerqe there's an Easter egg with the image of Jesus.

In Ohio, a car ran into a hair salon.

In Michigan, a couple made sweaters out of their dead dog's hair.

Then when I change channels, the same BS stories are on the other networks. Are we being fed nonsense from some one in charge (Rupert Murdock)?

WTF? Isn't there real news in our local area? What ever happened to journalism? Why does the local news feature random stories from across the nation that really aren't news? You can't handle the truth!

Or they think so, and they tell the news. :)

May guess is that they want to entertain you more than enlighten you.

Because it has accompanying video footage of the event. And local news is also formatted. At the end of the newscast, before the jolly little bantor between the people behind the desk, they run the %26quot;Aww!%26quot; segment: the Easter egg hunt, the new animal born at some zoo, etc. None of the preceding requires any reporter to actually leave the station's premises and venture forth to cover a local story. Should that happen without accompanying video footage of some sort it is deemed non-reportable.

My eldest son was a weekend news director at a local news outlet in Las Vegas. He kept having flashbacks of Frank Morgan as Professor Marvel in %26quot;The Wizard of Oz%26quot; yelling: %26quot;Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!%26quot;. LOL!
Because the mentality of your people is enshrined in your area. You might not be the only one to despise your way of life (some aspects of it), but most approve of it and that is why it is still there.

That is one the basis of capitalism : actions always happen naturally, to make natural profit, even if the social cost is high.
