Mandela stated that he wanted S.A. to become a rainbow nation,
and i wondered what reasons the government have now changed to head towards becoming a rainbow nation
eg schooling/tourism %26lt; i know these are some but cant think why?!
any sensible and helping answers muchly appreciated!
thanks :)What reasons has south africa started to become a 'rainbow nation'?It isnt becoming a rainbow nation. All the Whites, Indians, Chinese, Malaysians and Coloureds are leaving. Only the Xhosa and Zulus are staying, and those guys are fighting each other for control of the country.
What reasons has south africa started to become a 'rainbow nation'?
it hasn't. it's gone from being a white-dominated country to a black-dominated country.
'rainbow nation' must be some kind of political slogan or advertising campaign. it is not an accurate description.

When South Africa had it's first democratic election and got the new flag the metaphor came from the rainbow coloured flag. It represents differences but unity within difference...if that makes sense. Different people from different backgrounds and cultures united wanting the same thing and getting equal opportunities. That's how I understand, anyway.

When Mandela spoke about the rainbow nation, he was talking about the different cultures in SA. ie. White - speak english. Some of the non white speak several languages ie. Xhosa, Zulu, etc, plus Afrikaans. He made everybody equal, so that there was equal job opportunity, schooling etc. Whereas before, the whites were privileged and got first priority in every way. Affirmation action also came into play so that there was no discrimition because of colour/language. Yes SA is a rainbow nation, and although it is taking a long time, they are getting there.
