Our founding fathers believed that all men answer to God (their Creator) and that no government has the right to interfere with that human responsibility. Our constitution was designed to protect this freedom. Our country is founded as a Democratic Republic where the people govern themselves in the confines of an established standard. And the established standard is derived from the Holy Scriptures... you can think of it as the Christian concept of man's responsibility to himself, to others, and to God.

In its original form it read:

In 1923, the words, %26quot;the Flag of the United States of America%26quot; were added. At this time it read:
%26quot;I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.%26quot;
In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words %26quot;under God,%26quot; creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Today it reads:

Since the 'communist threat' of the 50's is no longer of any consequence, the words really need not be there.

I think that the entire Pledge should be abandoned altogether. Truly free people do not pledge their allegiance to an oligarchy masquerading as a republic.

I think they should be taken out. I was raised atheist and really resented having to say that every day. In fact, I'd get rid of the whole pledge of allegiance entirely. Making kids drone a silly loyalty oath every day in school is demeaning to both the students and the country.
i don't think there is a flag salute comity that we could consult, and i don't think just not saying that part, or any part, would offend anyone so much that one would face any consequence.

Deffinitely not. That symbolized the unity of the nation and violates no ones rights. It would be different if it specified a specific god. But it doesnt. It means anybodies god. Muslim, Hindu, Christian, ect... Just god in general.
