Should every nation have a legally mandated first language?

Should every nation promote a first and dominant language or should language be allowed to develop and change in a country or according to the whims of individuals, or both?Should every nation have a legally mandated first language? Both.

All official business of a country should be standardized, and part of that is having it all in the same language.

But, it is not the business of any government to mandate the details of the citizens day-to-day life. Especially not for something as personal and individualized as language and manner of expression.
Should every nation have a legally mandated first language?
No.

Polyglots should be celebrated. Learning a second or third language opens your minds to new ideas and concepts.
Should every nation have a legally mandated first language?
no but i think eventually that would happen! have you heard of Illuminati? means new world order and thats exactly what all the past presidents been doing! you should look it up on you tube
I think every nation should have a legally mandated first language. The problem with allowing languages to change in dialect is, you end up having confusion amongst residents. The way the structure for many nations as it stands is, you must know that country's language before you can fully assimilate into that society. Why is this? The reason has to do with order. When you have people in a nation who know different languages and there is no set structure, you then have chaos. Without order, you have confusion, misrepresentation amongst citizens, and overall you have a nation that doesn't represent its people very well. The whole point of having a first language is to instill a sense of order so you don't cause breakdowns in communication. For example, the U.S. has English as its first language. This is appropriate because it provides order and it keeps confusion at a minimum.
You will find some very strong opinions about this. I once asked myself; does it really matter if we all speak the same language? I couldn't come up with a single VALID reason why it would matter. I stick with that, I don't think it really matters what language people speak in my country. So, no, I don't think we should have a legally mandated first language.
