Should our Nation change direction in the recognition and teaching of ALL ethnic groups throughout history?

It is fact the U.S.A is a poppourri of enthicities from all over the world, with the exception of the aboriginal native Americans (the Indians).

I want poeople to really think about this question with open minds!

If let%26#039;s say enthnic groups in America or anywhere in the world have a day, a week or a month designated to that ethnic group and/or exclusively that groups role in history , then are we as a Nation not only promoting segragation but also supporting it with the way we recognize and celebrat????

What about Asian History Week? How about Italian History Month? Or Egyptian History Day? I%26#039;m sure you get the point! Throughout history I%26#039;m sure each-along with many other of ethnic backgrounds have contributed to American history with great people who have achieved great things while overcoming adversity?

To make America even stronger why not Keep history and teach history in its appropriate context, and stop dividing our own nation by ethnic backgroud?|||I could not agree with you more. We spend way to much trying to %26quot; recognize%26quot; these different ethnicity%26#039;s as special when i am sure some way they did contribute such as you said. But why do we need to make a Special month or day or week? Why can%26#039;t we celebrate AMERICA?|||I think american history and world history should be seperate and diverse, with Howard Zinn leading the way!|||Or what if instead of focusing on all that stuff we just worry about the fact that we are all American then we don%26#039;t have to teach all of that. It doesn%26#039;t matter what country your great-great-great-great-great-great-grea鈥?grandparents came from what matters is the country your living in right now America so who cares about your other ethnicity what does it really do besides make everyone care about appearances. I think it would be good for Americans to learn more about different cultures but not because of all the ancestors and the countries they came from but because Americans tend to only know about American culture.|||YES!

And to let you know. Native Americans did have some influence on American culture.|||We have to stop being the United States of the Offended first, and just be Americans.

Oh, you%26#039;re a Chineese immigrant? Well, you%26#039;re an American now, etc., etc.,..............

Love the culture, the food, the individualism, but, if you are an American citizen, be an American!!!!!! Not a ..................certain country American.|||Hey- What about Caucasian-American week? Just kidding of course. I don%26#039;t believe any ethnic group should have a week designated to it%26#039;s history. The thing is, if you are vocal enough to get the support, you can get anything you want. I also think that all official holidays pertaining to any one group should be abolished. The government should recognize only those that have to do with patriotism, such as President%26#039;s Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day. You know what I mean. Lets get completely neutral about ethnicity. Maybe people would quit bellyaching about racism in the government if that happened.|||You are wide open for a $harpton-Jack$on tag team match.|||In my line of work I%26#039;ve met many people from many different ethnic backgrounds and absolutely love learning about different cultures. I personally think that it%26#039;s important to understand other cultures. Getting to know these people has helped me grow as a person and gain a new respect for people around me.

We all come from different walks of life whether we%26#039;re born in the US or not and I feel it%26#039;s important to embrace our roots. I think we can do that and still all be %26quot;Americans%26quot; at the same time. I am Native American.

Kinlon Mkazas|||I am in total agreement with this. My ancestors came from Eastern European and European countries in the early 1900s and therefore were never part of any racial oppression. In fact, the reasons they came here were because of oppression in their native countries. So are we to be lumped in with those colonial slave-owners, their progeny and others with racist mentality just because or our skin color?

To me, that is true racism....

History should be taught for all groups without special %26quot;history months%26quot; and our children should be taught the history of all their ancestors who have and still contribute to the growth and the wonderfulness that makes the USA the place where people want to live, work and play.|||It will make a difference.
