Is anyone in DC working on changing automatic citizenship if a baby is born here ?

that law just doesnt make sense to me . it was made back in the stones ages, we need new laws for this developed nation. Is anyone in DC working on changing automatic citizenship if a baby is born here ?Our government is completely apathetic regarding illegal immigration and they promote it by turning their heads the other way regarding border control, illegals taking American jobs (mandating E-verify would solve that problem, but they won't do this), allowing in-state tuition for illegals, educating them from K-12, allowing them to use our hospitals free, etc.

The anchor baby clause is a huge magnet for illegals because their babies can collect government aid for 18 years. Yes, 18 years. An American on similar aid can only collect for 5!!! Democrats love illegals because they want an amnesty that would make them democratic votes, and Republicans love the cheap labor for their rich cronies. Our %26quot;representatives%26quot; in Congress are paid for by Big Business who want the cheap labor, and by other special interests. Until more Americans get their heads out of their entertainment centers and realize that we're being sold out, our government will continue on its path to destroy the U.S. as we know it. It's a travesty that only a very vocal response will change, and with the current unemployment rate and continued import of 138,000 foreign workers PER MONTH (not including new and existing illegals who take our jobs), our middle class will soon disappear and be sucked into the massive underclass they're allowing to take over with their numbers. America is doomed unless we make some radical changes.

I don't think so, but call your congressman's or senator's office and ask them.
Is anyone in DC working on changing automatic citizenship if a baby is born here ?
Yeah they have changed it alright.... for the worse...heck now they make anyone a U.S. citizen as the government hands it out like prizes in a Cracker-Jack box. I have a neighbor who was given U,S, citizenship and he speaks no English...none. his family said, you pay-off certain people and they get it for you by doing the exams! Nice...real nice! U.S. citizenship has been watered-down! Its benefits now are it will get you murdered if you go to certain countries who are anti-America.... period! I agree with you, course it makes no sense, but then with the U.S. government in the last 50 years, what has concerning the real American citizens who are here by abiding by the laws and rules? America is on its way out....A New World Order is coming!
It should be changed....the baby would be the same as the parent! The only way to make citizenship truthful is to make it so that the only 2 ways of becoming an American is to be born to Americans or by going through the naturalization process (otherwise American citizenship is just an accident of birthplace).
Two principles on citizenship that are common:

1, the baby has the same citizenship of the parents (mother in case of unmarried). Some countries use this.

2. it depends on birth place. (like USA)

Some allow dual citizenship, some do not.

We inherit those from the era when horses eat metal bar.
I sure hope so. It was created for the children of slaves not all these illegals and their anchor babies.
The Government is not following our U.S. Constitution and our laws. The Constitution does not say anything about automatic citizenship..

In 1866, Senator Jacob Howard clearly spelled out the intent of the 14th Amendment by stating:

%26quot;Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great desideratum in the jurisprudence and legislation of this country.%26quot;

The phrase %26quot;subject to the jurisdiction thereof%26quot; was intended to exclude American-born persons from automatic citizenship whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. With illegal aliens who are unlawfully in the United States, their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child. Thus, the completeness of their allegiance to the United States is impaired, which therefore precludes automatic citizenship.

The Consequences if this injustice is allow to continue it will cost us our lives and country plain and simple!!!

We can get this fixed but we must start voting for True patriot's that talk the talk about illegal immigration.. To name a few Congressman Tom Tancredo,Chuck Baldwin we must endorse people that speak strongly on this issue.

P.S WE DO HAVE A GROUP WE MUST SUPPORT WITH MONEY AND VOLUNTEERING.

Please visit: TAXPAYER REVOLUTION.

TAXPAYER REVOLUTION is launching a June 2010 ballot initiative to protect California's taxpayers from the government's failure to enforce federal laws and the original intent of the 14th Amendment that have caused an expensive %26quot;birth tourism%26quot; problem.

Excerpt from the website.

An article in the Sacramento Bee on September 10, 2007 by Washington correspondent David Whitney summed up automatic citizenship: %26quot;Although Congress has never passed a law saying so, no president has ever ordered it, and no court has ever ruled on the issue, each of these babies automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when it takes its first breath.%26quot; This is a taxpayer injustice.

God bless.
Amazing answers on this question. All over the world.. including Mexico, and by treaty that is dealt with by the United Nations, the citizenship of the child follows the mother. You can be in Mars.. when the child come back, the citizenship is the same as the mothers.

Children born in the United States to Diplomats, visitors, illegal aliens automatically have the same citizenship as the citizenship of the mother, unless there is a father on the birth certificate, and when that is there, the child may pick his citizenship when he comes of age.

Anchor babies are not citizens of the United States.. and Congress could fix that if they wanted to. They would much, much rather charge the American Taxpayers millions of dollars and screw up our medical system than to correct their own idiots mistake.
Indeed, they should change that.
What would you propose their citizenship be then? I don't think another country would allow them to have a citizenship of theirs if the baby wasn't born there. If the mother is Russian and has a baby in Los Angeles, is the baby supposed to have Russian citizenship even though it might never step foot in Russia? Would Russia allow someone to have Russian citizenship when it was born in another country? Seriously, how much sense would that make.
Why do you ask? Are you American born and not happy being a citizen? Then just renounce your citezenship and throw a dart at a world map and leave... just a thought...this goes for all of the other ranters on this one. Wake up ! We have bigger fish to fry here people.
